Nancy Linda January:  

After high school I moved around quite a bit. Worked for a vet and learned dog grooming. While looking for work, I got tired explaining that nobody called me by my first name. Everyone called me "Linda." Finally, I just gave up (all the applications asked for my first name) and started using "Nancy." So nearly everyone calls me "Nancy" now.Almost everyone I knew before '79 still calls me "Linda." In '73 I graduated from Trinity Bible College in Tulsa (diploma--no degree), married a classmate there, moved to Arkansas, then Louisiana, had two children, divorced, and finally moved back to Tulsa with the kids. Married Donnie January from Jay in 1980. I've been married to my wonderful husband twenty-nine years. We have three children (two in graduate school and one is a Master Carpenter) and eleven grandchildren (The Grands). Five years ago, we bought a cabin in Delaware County and are quite content. The Grands are close enough to see regularly, but far enough away that coming to visit is a special event. We've tried to spoil them, but The Grands spoiled us first. We've figured out that being grandparents is not about spoiling The Grands, but about making meaningful memories with them. Among other things, we do this by taking each Grand on a 3 to 4 day road trip in the year he/she turns twelve. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all of us. I didn't attend "real" college until '86. Went to TJC, then NSU. Graduated in '90 with a BA in Secondary English Education. I taught English and Journalism at Big Cabin then Adult Basic Education for the Department of Corrections. It was a short run. Disability forced my retirement from the classroom in '96.
